Videos 1950s

These videos span the 1950s. some may extend into the 1960s.


Oliver Family 1949-1954 – These are various clips with Oliver and Anne, including Dorothy and Mary. Second part is Oliver with his sister Laura and brother Archie.


Victor Johnson 1950s – This series of clips was taken at various times and places. Victor is seen with several different girlfriends and friends. One scene is at his 55th place with his mother Anne, Sr. Alphonsus(Kathleen), Mrs. Smithers, and a girlfriend with a daughter. There are also several scenes of his trailer, buildings, swimming pool and the mountains to the west. He lived at the 55th Street place from 1950 most of his life and sold it just a few years before he died. When he married Lois, they lived in several different places, but he kept the 55th Street place.


Frank Curley 1950-1963 – Frank Curley was a brother of Margaret Curley, Oliver’s mother. He was a great-uncle to Victor and Oliver’s other children. He visited the Gibbs Linden house in summer 1951. Other segments are visiting with his daughters in DC. Later videos are Frank visiting with his daughters in 1963.


Gibbs, Renzi, and Leo Johnson Families 1951-1953 – In 1951, the Gibbs, Renzi, and Leo Johnson families were at the Gibbs Linden House. Jeanne’s eyes were light sensitive – she wasn’t crying! In 1952, the families gathered at the Renzi house in Maryland. Leo wasn’t there. Carol Othmer, a Fresh Air kid from New York, is in the pictures. In 1953, the Gibbs and Renzi families were at the Gibbs house at Linden. Grandma Anne Johnson was also there.


Gibbs at Pratts and Steven’s Baptism 1952 – Bernard and Cornelia Gibbs ‘retired’ to a smaller farm when their kids were grown. They raised a lot of their own food – cows, chickens, pigs, garden. Grandma (Mama Nelie) would kill a chicken for Sunday dinner. She milked cows and made her own butter. We had fun playing in the hay loft! Second part is Steven’s baptism at St. John’s Catholic Church in Front Royal VA in March 1952.


Johnson Family 1952-1958 – Variety of clips from different times and places. Included are Bob Wahlin and children, Archie Johnson with Myron and Lola families, at Jim Johnson’s with Evelyn and Bob Wahlin and family.


Leo Family in California 1953 – Leo and family moved to California in 1953. They lived in Bakersfield then later moved to Anaheim. These movies were taken when they lived in Bakersfield. Brief clip of Archie Johnson and (probably) his daughter Lola. Leo has white pigeons on his shoulder at San Juan Capistrano. The kids ride bicycles at their house.


Christiansen family 1953-1956 – Christiansen family in 1953. Marie was about a year old. Mary, John, Tom, Jim, Joel, and Marie. Other scenes are from 1956 and include scenes with Oliver. The beards are because of a frontier days in Miller. The event was the 75th anniversary of the town of Miller.


Minnie Lawless Thompson Family 1954-1960 – Minnie had two children: Bernice (1916-1968) and Donald (1919-?) with her husband Phil Thompson. In these films, the man with the striped shirt is Donald and Bernice is the mother of the young girl, Kathleen Jarboe (b1950). Tall man is Arthur Jarboe. Other woman is probably Donald’s wife. (NOTE: These are assumptions based on ages and apparent relationships.) Minnie was Anne Lawless Johnson’s sister.


Gibbs & Renzi Families 1955-1957 – This combination of several movies includes Gibbs at Linden, Renzi in MD, and several different movies of the Gibbs and Renzi families at Linden VA. The Gibbs burros appear at the end.


Victor Johnson 1956-1968 – These are short scenes from various films that were taken by Victor Johnson.  The first clip was taken at a beach in California Many are at his place on 55th Street in Boulder and other nearby Colorado locations.


South Dakota Families 1956-1958 – This begins with a 1956 Memorial Day ceremony and Mass at St. Anne’s Cemetery in Miller SD. The family lays flowers at Jeannette’s grave. The second part from 1958 is a family picnic with Shorty Johnson and Oliver Johnson.


Leo Johnson Family 1956 – These films were taken in California and Colorado. Included: Leo, Nora Jane, Jeanne, David, Bob, Herb, Sam, Barbara.  Barbara was a baby. The last scene is with Mrs. Smithers.


Gibbs at Linden 1958 – Kids are playing in the swimming pool that Ray built. Then getting the usual group ‘photos’. Everyone acting up as usual. Ray was in a cast because he broke his back in a work accident.


Renzi in Maryland 1958 – The Renzi family plays! Anne was the baby.
